Exploring Local Business and Culture: A Two-Day Business Studies Trip for iMBA Students

The School of Management recently facilitated an enriching two-day business studies trip on May 10th and 11th, offering our MBA students a unique blend of corporate and cultural experiences in Taoyuan and New Taipei City.

This educational journey is designed with a blend of corporate visits and cultural excursions, designed to enrich our students' understanding of business operations and local traditions. Joining the trip were nineteen iMBA students, guided by Professor Yvonne Chuang and iMBA Program Manager Kelly Ke from the School of Management.

The excursion begins at NEXCOM, where students will witness cutting-edge technology in action. The visit included a detailed demonstration in the Situation Room, showcasing Smart Factory and Smart Manufacture Solutions. This was followed by an engaging tour of the Smart Production Line, offering students a firsthand look at how digital technologies are revolutionizing manufacturing.

The afternoon session took the group to the Valofresh Factory, a pioneering vertical farm that exemplifies sustainable agricultural practices and advanced food production methodologies. Students enjoyed a special hotpot lunch, prepared with fresh produce directly from the farm. The cultural segment of the day included visits to Daxi Bridge and Daxi Old Street, where students absorbed the historical and cultural essence of the region.

The second day began with an educational visit to the HSR Museum, which detailed the development and impact of Taiwan's high-speed rail system. This visit offered insights into the significant advancements and economic implications of modern transportation infrastructures.

The afternoon was rich in cultural exploration, with a tour of Ying Ge, renowned for its ceramics and pottery heritage. Students visited Ying Ge Old Street and the Ying Ge Museum to learn about the area’s pottery production history. The highlight was a DIY Pottery Workshop, where students applied their creativity in a hands-on experience in ceramic making. The day concluded with a tour of The Lin Family Mansion and Garden, a site that beautifully illustrates the traditional architectural styles and historical significance of Taiwanese estates.

This business studies trip not only broadened our students' practical knowledge of business operations and sustainability practices but also deepened their appreciation for Taiwan's rich cultural heritage. Through such experiential learning opportunities, the School of Management aims to prepare well-rounded leaders who are equipped to navigate and contribute to the global business environment effectively. The insights gained from this trip will undoubtedly influence our students' academic and professional perspectives in profound ways.
